Kerala Nut Food is part of the K.P.P group, one of the pioneers of the cashew industry in India. The Late K. Parameswaran Pillai founded the group in 1925. The group, from a modest start with just a single processing unit has today around 60 such units with over 10,000 employees in South India, thereby making it one of the largest processors of blanched cashew kernels in the world. The group has not hence looked back and has constantly been at the forefront of the Cashew trade..
KERALA NUT FOOD CO., was started in 1965 when the K.P.P group was bifurcated into four sister concerns, with the four sons of the Late K. Parameswaran Pillai at the helm each individual company.
Mr. P. Gangadharan Pillai, who was the eldest son of Mr. K. Parameswaran Pillai, managed KERALA NUT FOOD CO. Mr. Gangadharan Pillai or ‘Ganga’ as he was known in the trading community, was one of the most experienced personalities in the cashew industry with over six decades in the cashew trade. It was during his time, that he built a reputation for himself and the group with his untiring efforts. He was elected the Chairman of the Cashew export promotion council for seven terms and was also the President of the Federation of Indian Export Organization (F.I.E.O), New Delhi. He was the Permanent Ambassador from India to the International Nut Council(INC) until he relinquished the post in the year 2000.
Mr.Gangadharan Pillai passed away on 28th May 2009. After this, his grandson Dr.Unnikrishnan, who had been assisting him since 1998, took over the reins and is managing the company at present. Dr.Unnikrishnan is a medical graduate and has used his background to ensure that the latest Quality standards are followed and pursued by the company. The company became ISO 19001 compliant and ISO 22000: 2005 compliant in 2006. It is also the first concern in the cashew business to became FSSC 22000 complaint.
